SWINGFIT STUDENTS' SUCCESS
Where some of our students are today
Hear the stories of where some of our students are today and how Swingfit nurtured them to reach their potential and successful positions in the golfing world.
How did Swingfit prepare me for my career in Golf?
It has been quite a journey! As a youngster all I wanted was to be a tour pro. That all changed the day I met James Wade. He introduced me to Swingfit and the PGA program as. He explained what they had to offer and at that stage of my life it looked like a no brainer and I have to admit it was the best decision I made. I consider myself privileged to have studied the sport I love while having the chance to play on the amateur circuit surrounded by a team who worked on every aspect of my game. As I write I am thinking, “Wow how awesome was this!”. I owe all my thanks to Simon Hunt and James Wade for where I am today.”
How did I secure a position at St Francis Links?
“In my 3rd year with Swingfit, Simon Hunt arranged for Jeff Clause to speak with the Swingfit students. It was a motivational pep talk. The aim was to provide a little boost going into the new competitive season. I was completely in awe of his enthusiasm and passion for the game. I had never met such an inspirational character and I decided there and then that I wanted to work for this visionary. Mr. Clause and I starting talking over email and after a lot of persistence and persuasion he gave me the chance to work for him and I was over the moon. St Francis Links is such a beautiful place and I’ve learned so much already and I am excited about what the future holds.”
Brenden now holds a full time position at St Francis Links, working for Jeff Clause.
PGA 2nd year work experience
Luan Boshoff had the opportunity to work for Francois De Lange at the beautiful Pezula Golf Estate in Knysna during his December holidays in 2016. He spent one week with the professional staff at Pezula and they put together an awesome program which offered great insights into how a golf club operates. Francois was so impressed with Luan’s approach that he offered him a position at the club. Whilst Luan has aspirations to pursue a career as a tour player, it is a great accolade and he is excited that he will be able to finish his practical training in the second half of his final year at Pezula.
Adrian started his PGA program at Swingfit in 2013. The Academy was then based at Pearl Valley for the first 2 years with golf being played at Paarl Golf Club. In the third year Swingfit moved the program to De Zalze Golf Club and forged a partnership with the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports (SAS) to use their facilities for lectures and gym work.
When Adrian started at Swingfit he was playing off a 7. After undergoing many technical swing changes with the support of coach, James Wade, he started to see massive improvements in his game. The range sessions combined with the on course work proved to be very beneficial and he finished his studies playing off a 2 handicap. On the academic side, he was top of his class and excelled in the coaching subjects. Alongside their theoretical studies, each learner had to amass valuable work experience. During Adrian’s first 3 years he spent many hours coaching youngsters for the Swingfit foundation coaching and this is where he found his love for coaching.
In his final examinations he achieved a distinction in his coaching practical exam. The Swingfit team were so impressed with this performance that they offered him a full time coaching role at the Pearl Valley site.

How we're nurturing students to grow through Swingfit with our excellent coaches and Facilities
Privately Coached by James Wade
James Wade our head coach at Pearl Valley and recently 2016 PGA Coach of the year in the Western Cape, is coaching number 1 amateur Luca Filippi. Luca, now 17 years old recently won the Rodney Hess Tournament on the Glacier Junior Series with a six-under par 66.
Why does Luca train with Swingfit?
I've had a lot of success since I've been working with James Wade and Swingfit (June 2016.) I've discovered many more aspects to the swing which I didn't even know existed and James has definitely taken me to another level mentally.
Why Swingfit? I've been working with the Swingfit team as part of the WPGU since I was 11 and it has been an eye opener as to the different skills tests they offer and their work ethic. They really have a great team behind the program and can take your game to a new level within weeks.
My goals for 2017: James got me to the number 1 spot in the junior SAGA rankings in 2016 and we made another big jump from 92nd in the Amateur Rankings to 9th by the end of the year. This year we want to go a step better. I'm am in my last year of school this year so I won't be playing so many tournaments but the events I am focusing on are:
1) SA Amateur match play championship- 19 February
2) SA Boys u/19 - 3 April
This year I'm going to work really hard with James and prepare as well as I can to achieve my goals and be ranked in the top 5 amateurs in South Africa.
